

He was born on July 16, 1939 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania to the late George and Alma Ruth (Foster) Whigham, Sr. George was the second oldest of four children.
George’s family moved to Hampton, South Carolina when he was a teenager. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1957 and soon after joined the United States Air Force. George was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. He soon met Evelyn, while she was working as a waitress and he would drive ninety miles to see her. The two of them got married in December of 1959 and settled in South Carolina where they spent the next 60 years together.
George was a Sales Manager with Sunbeam Bread for over twenty years. When he retired, he and Evelyn worked for the next ten years with Holiday Retirement Co, lastly opening Deepwood Estates on Old Chapin Road in Lexington, SC.
George loved golfing, the South Carolina Gamecocks and spending time with his family. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn; his son, Kenny; and his two brothers, David and Richard Whigham.
George is survived by his sister, Jean White of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters, Darlene Derrick of West Columbia, SC, Nancy (Ken) McCall of Greenville, SC, and daughter in law, Cindy Whigham of Fort Mill, SC; one grandson, four granddaughters, eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will welcome friends and family on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 5-7pm at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. The funeral will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3pm at Trinity Baptist Church, Cayce. Burial will be at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC 29033.
