Lawrence was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jake and Jewel Gilbert of Meriwether County, GA. He was born January 13th, 1940, in Meriwether County, GA where he attended Berry High School in Rome, GA and then received a Civil Engineering Degree from Georgia Southern. He started his career with Georgia DOT, then moved to Macon Prestressed Concrete Co. for 20 years and retired from Tindall Corporation. Once he retired, he became an active part of his grandchildren’s lives. In his early years he enjoyed gardening, coaching and umpiring little league baseball in the Cayce-West Columbia area. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing several times a week with his wife Eloise and had 9 hole-in-ones throughout his career. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eloise Eggleton Gilbert of 61 years and grandson, Chad Vella. He is survived by daughter, Pam Vietmeier (Todd); son, Danny Gilbert; grandsons, Brandon and Brent Gilbert; granddaughter, Tori McGill (Cam); and great granddaughters, Scarlett McGill and Palmer McGill.
The family welcomes all friends to join them on Friday April 25th, at 3:00 p.m. for a graveside service at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia to celebrate the life of Lawrence Gilbert. The service will be officiated by Pastor Wade Roof of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church.
