Linda Lougenia Sims Hurt, widow of Dewey Clive Hurt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, due to complications of dementia. Born in 1941 in Whitmire, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Lee Blackburn Sims and Lougenia Martin Sims McCarley.
Mrs. Hurt graduated Whitmire High School, Class of 1958, then attended Columbia Commercial College. After many years in public service, she retired from the SC Budget and Control Board, General Services Division. When not working, she enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, golfing, gardening, and loving her grandchildren. She was a long-time member of Congaree Presbyterian Church in Cayce, SC.
Mrs. Hurt, affectionately known as Mamu, was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Stanfield of West Columbia; three grandchildren, Rebecca Deanne Rabon of Lexington, Laura Elizabeth Stanfield of Cayce, and Philip Thomas of Savannah, GA; three great-grandchildren, Savannah Miles, Easton Rabon, and Samantha Rabon of Lexington; two great-great-grandchild, Aleeyah and Waylon Miles of Lexington.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Hayden; sisters, Betty Bragg and Joyce Hunnicutt; brothers, Sonny and Charles Lee Sims.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Congaree Presbyterian Church of Cayce followed by the service at 3:00 p.m. and interment in Southland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (SC Gift Processing, 4600 Park Rd, Ste 250, Charlotte, NC 28209), Congaree Presbyterian Church (1221 Lafayette Ave, Cayce, SC 29033), or a charity of your choice.
