Melissa Cole Fleming, 53, of Cayce, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025. Born in Gastonia, North Carolina, on May 26, 1972, Melissa was the beloved daughter of the late Martha Ann Deer and Johnny Cole (Elizabeth).
Melissa was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life was a testament to faith, love, and service. Melissa’s life was deeply rooted in her faith. A lifelong member of the church, she joyfully served in many roles - teaching Sunday school, leading praise and worship, and directing drama skits. Her voice lifted spirits, her laughter filled rooms, and her heart welcomed everyone. She never met a stranger and was known for her generous spirit, often giving her last dollar to someone in need.
She had a passion for singing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her sense of humor and ability to make others laugh were among her most cherished gifts. Melissa also embraced many as her “adopted children,” loving them as her own and offering guidance, comfort, and unconditional support.
She is survived by her three cherished children: Patrick Fleming, Payton Fleming, and Mackenzie Fleming. Her love for them was boundless and unwavering - they were the light of her life.
She is also survived by her siblings: Brenda Brown (Kevin), Renee Cole, Michelle Deer, and Brandon Deer. Melissa was a proud and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews: Courtney Hathaway (Daniel), Branson Cole (Katie), Madison Brown, Braxton Deer, Arcadias Deer, Mia Deer, Summerlin Deer, Emberly Deer, and Alexis Deer, as well as her treasured great-niece, Rhiannon Grace Hathaway.
Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents and her mother, Martha Ann Deer. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
