Stephen was born on February 1, 1962 in Columbia, SC to Russell and Roxy Chambers. He attended Richland Northeast High School where he enjoyed the camaraderie of many neighborhood friends, and countless beach vacations with his family. One of his favorite places to explore was Lake Wateree at the family lake cabin. As a boy, Stephen loved being under the leadership of his father and scout master in the Boy Scouts.
He was married to his wife, Carolyn Chambers, for 38 years. He obtained his builders license to begin SMR contracting where he served his community to build homes and improve businesses for many years. Stephen was an avid reader and loved to study history, science, and be out in nature. He especially loved bird watching and going on long walks in the woods. Fishing was his greatest passion and place of peace, especially with his children and grandchildren. Stephen often considered himself the “grill master” and his family would agree. He was a true craftsman with the ability to build anything with his hands from the ground up. He was a servant-hearted man who loved his family.
Stephen Chambers is survived by his spouse, Carolyn Chambers; children, Russell Chambers, Rachael Spangler (Jason) and Michael Ellingsen (Laura); grandchildren, Lily, Remi, Austin, Noah, Breanna, Cooper; great grandchildren, Austin Jr. “AJ”, Asher; his parents, Russell and Roxy Chambers; brothers, Russell Chambers, Kenneth Chambers (Danny), Linda Chambers; nephew, Matthew Chambers; great nephew, Oscar and uncle, Ronald Wiles.
