Steve worked for Lexington School District 1 Maintenance Department from high school until he retired. While his primary role was the district locksmith, there were few things that he didn’t know how to do. He was well known for his carpentry skills and the many projects he did for family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman. You could easily find him in a deer stand, a dove field or on Lake Wateree crappie fishing. However, you would most likely find him at home on the farm working his garden, tending his animals, or working on his latest project. He also developed a great interest in peacocks and became well known for this over the last few years.
He is survived by his wife, Georgetta Sturkie Bachman; his children, Jessica Lastinger (Scotty), Michelle Sturkie (Scott), and Colton Bachman (Melissa); grandchildren, Lucas, Ava, Ethan, Seth, Hudson, and Beaux; sisters, Bonnie Atwood (James) and Kay Ann Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Mike and Donnie.
A visitation for Steven will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church, 501 Church Street, West Columbia, SC 29172, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church.
