

Douglas Bruce Wright was born on November 14, 1949, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Donald Byron Wright and Norma Jean Newton Wright. He passed away at the age of 76 on December 24, 2025, at his home in Waco, Texas, with his wife of 35 years, Susan, by his side.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Ann Boatman Wright, whom he married on August 29, 1990. Douglas is also survived by his beloved son, Kevin Bruce Wright and his wife Kelly, of Sherman, Texas; and four cherished grandchildren: Amberly Ann Galyon and her husband Kyle, Jerrid Bruce Wright and his wife Brenna, Kevin Aaron Wright, and Cayden Dean Ridgeway. He will be fondly remembered by his ten great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Ann Wiley and her husband Scott; niece, Alisha Torrance; nephew, Steven Wiley; as well as five grand-nieces and one grandnephew.
At age 12, Douglas moved with his family to Rome, Italy, where he attended The American School. After returning to the United States, he graduated from Waco High School in 1969.
Douglas built a 30-year career with Central Freight, where his dedication and work ethic earned the respect of all who worked alongside him. After retiring from Central Freight, he continued his career with a metal recycling company in Waco, remaining committed and diligent until 2025. Douglas passed on his strong moral values, commitment to hard work, and the importance of higher education to his son Kevin, leaving a legacy of integrity that continues through the family today.
Throughout their marriage, Douglas and Susan lovingly raised many dogs, each a treasured companion and true member of the family, a testament to their compassion and gentle spirits.
Douglas’s passion for R&B music was a constant source of joy in his life. Whether listening to his favorite songs or playing guitar, he found a special kind of happiness in music, gifted with the remarkable ability to play by ear after just one listen.
A Celebration of Douglas’s Life will be held at 2pm on January 9, 2026, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors in Waco, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the life of a loving husband, father, and friend.
