

Visitation will be on Friday, June 8 from 6-8pm at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 10am at Connally-Compton with Jim Martin of Crestview Church of Christ officiating.
Garland was born February 24, 1918 in Stephenville, Texas to Virgil and Mable Ferguson. On February 27, 1941 he began his service in the Army. He married Cora Belle Badger on January 4, 1950 in Brownwood, Texas. He worked at the family dairy in Stephenville, and also worked for his uncles, Pat and Wren Jackson, on their ranches in west Texas. After leaving the dairy in 1952 he moved to Clarksville, Texas where he was a ranch manager. In 1958 he moved to Fort Worth to manage another ranch. Throughout the 50’s and 60’s he showed cattle all over the state. He had the Grand Champion Heifer at the Houston Livestock Show. In 1973 he moved to San Angelo. Garland served for many years as an Elder at the Church of Christ in Saginaw, Texas. He enjoyed being a judge at the Fort Worth Stockyards. Ultimately, he retired from the Texas A&M Extension Service in San Angelo, Texas, then moved to Waco to live closer to his son and his family In the mid 80’s he purchased a farm in Lorena and enjoyed spending nearly every day there with his cattle. He was a member of the Crestview Church of Christ. Garland was preceded in death by his brother, Merton Ferguson.
He is survived by his wife, Cora Ferguson; son, Roy Ferguson and wife Diane; grandsons, Michael Ferguson and wife Amber, David Ferguson, Chad Ferguson and wife Alicia; granddaughters, Samantha Grochoske and husband Joel, and Kristina Kight and husband Kevin; and great-grandchildren, Colton Ferguson, Brody Ferguson, Owen Ferguson, Katrina Ferris, Addison Ferguson, Danielle Duarte, Quinton Kight, and Gryphon Kight. David lives in Orlando, Florida and the rest of the family still lives in Lorena. He is also survived by his brother, Leon Ferguson of Sterling City, Texas; nephews, Jay Ferguson, Rob Ferguson, and Dow Tanner of Sterling; and numerous nieces and nephews from the Badger clan.
