Jeanne M. Bowman, 87, died quietly on Friday, November 12, 2010 at her home in Dallas. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco with Pastor Tim Williams officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors in Waco prior to the graveside service. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Kenedy at a time to be announced.
Jeanne was born July 23, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas to Verstell Euell and Nancy (Baucam) Mallett. She moved to Corpus Christi in 1939 where she graduated high school and attended Del Mar College. During the war she worked for the Naval Air Station. It was there that she met and married Lt. Cmdr. Frederick Edwin Bowman on June 13, 1942.
Jeanne was a homemaker who dedicated her life to raising her six children. In 1972, Mr. and Mrs. Bowman moved to Kenedy. Following a stroke in 2008, she moved to Dallas to be closer to her children.
Jeanne was active in many community organizations such as the PTA, Head Start, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. She was instrumental in creating the Kenedy Public Library. Her faith in Jesus Christ was the most important thing to her and she was an active member of First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi and then First Baptist Church, Kenedy. She was a generous woman giving of her time and money to many charitable organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Frederick Edwin Bowman; sons, John David Bowman and Robert Henry Bowman; and sister, Edna Blevins.
Those left behind to cherish Jeanne’s memory are her sons, Frederick William Bowman and wife, Deborah, of Dallas, and Richard Mark Bowman of Houston; daughters, Mary Bowman Campbell and Dr. Nancy Upton, both of Dallas; sister, Nancy Elizabeth Dyer of Riverside, CA; grandchildren, Dr. Wesley Brady and husband, Jeff, Tom Shoptaw and wife, Christina, Carrie Bowman, Ben Bowman, Brett Bowman, Nancy E. Upton, Josh Bowman and Trevor Bowman; great grandchildren, Sam, Savannah, and Bo Brady; niece, Georgia Kornegay and husband, Dean; nephews, Thad Dyer and Steve Dyer; and other relatives and dear friends.
Donations may be made to the Jeanne Bowman Endowed Scholarship at Truett Seminary, Baylor University.
