

Bill was born on May 27,1937 in Floydada, Texas to Lonnie Alvin and Vera Mae Rawlings. He was raised in Big Spring where he graduated high school (1951-1955). He then went on to Howard County Junior College (1955-1957). The University of Texas in Austin (1957-1960) where he earned his degree for Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. Shortly after, Bill and his twin brother Edwin were drafted into the United States Army where they served together for two years. After being honorably discharged, Bill was a Chemical Engineering Assistant and received a Purple Heart. In 1963 he worked in California, Wyoming, and South Texas as a Well Logging Engineer. Bill married the love of his life Betty on June 30, 1967 in Wellington. Together they raised their only child, Peggy. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandpa “Pop” and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded by his wife Betty Lou Rawlings, daughter Peggy Rawlings-Avant, his parents, his sister Virginia Gail Pinkerton and husband Bill, twin brother Charles Edwin Rawlings, and brother in law Walter Beasley. Bill is survived by his grandson Shane Avant and wife Stefanie of Amarillo, his great grandsons Gunner and Tucker Avant of Amarillo, sister Mary Jo Beasley of Clifton, TX, sister-in-law Sue Rawlings of Morgan, TX, nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives.
