Wilma May Koester Blount, 93, was called to heaven on September 14, 2011 at Park Manor of Humble Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, her home for almost eight years. The family will greet friends and relatives at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1301 Hogan Lane, Waco, TX, 76705. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Walter Albers officiating and burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Wilma was born July 26, 1918 in Waco and lived there most of her life, attending La Vega High School and enjoying a 29 year career with Montgomery Ward. She was an avid reader, knowledgeable in many subjects. She loved crossword puzzles, baking (fresh cookies were always in the cookie jar), gardening and caring for every homeless animal that came her way. Wilma loved her family and friends, never forgetting a birthday and making every holiday special. A lifelong Lutheran, she treasured her church, Bible Study group and LWML women's group and missed them terribly during her long illness.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, August and Pauline (Matthys) Koester, sisters Charlotte McDonald and Virgilia "Jill" McCollaum, one niece and one nephew.
Survivors include her daughters, Glenda Hermes and husband, Chester of Houston and Jean Black of Spring, TX; also, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces.
A special thank you to the caregivers and staff at Park Manor of Humble and Heart to Heart Hospice of Houston for the loving care and compassion they gave to her every day.
