Anthony Fernandez, 88, of Kahului, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Maui Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Fernandez was born on February 23, 1923 in Paia, Maui. He was a Merchant Seaman, a veteran for the United States Army, a truck operator for the Kahului Railroad, and he was a self taught man of many trades. Mr. Fernandez is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Tony (Pat), Joseph (Lani), and Akoni (Anela); four daughters, Marie (Ben) Mercado, JoJo (Rodney) KeeChong, Stephanie- Joan (Ron) Ahina, and Haunani (Geoff) Kirkland; three brothers, Boniface (Moi), Louie, and Apey; five sisters, Alice Prito, Martha Santos, Mary (Charlie) Estrella, Theresa (Russell) Cain, and Bernie (Bernie) Fishman; twenty six grandchildren; and forty five great grandchildren.
Visitation: Family and friends are invited to gather for funeral services on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Ballard Family Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m.Services: Service at 10 a.m.Interment: Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. at the Maui Veteran's Cemetery in Makawao.
