Diana, 68, originally from Honolulu, Oahu but long time resident of Kahului, Maui, transitioned to her heavenly address on Tuesday, October 8th 2024. She was born on July 30th 1956 to Leilani Helen "Ski" Gooman and Climoth Hughes (both deceased).
She worked as a school bus driver for Roberts of Hawaii for many years, as well as Hertz for 15+ years. However her love and passion was hula. She was proud of being one of the original dancers and Alaka‘i of Uncle Samuel Naeole, founder and late Kumu of Hula Halau O Kamuela.
Mom is survived by her partner, Ella Huihui; her 3 children: Dominic “Ulu” (Lavonne), Daniel “Ala” (Sharese), and Ka‘ape; Mo‘opunas: Akui (Darla), Anuhea (Raiden), Zainaiah (Nomalani), Zaysharae, Alaka'i, Zeriyah, Ale'a, Alohi, Z'ari, and Awa; Mo‘opuna Nui: Khloe, Kylie-Rose, Khaleesi-Marie, Kiarie-Lei, Sienna-Marie and, soon to come, Kui; along with many hanai's and many more family and friends.
She touched many hearts and we can share many stories. She loved hard and was loved very much. But most of all she loved God, believed heaven is real and is now dancing hula in heaven with her late husband, Dominic Akui.
The family would like to say much mahalo to Hospice Maui and to everyone for their love and support and prayer. Amen!
A celebration of life over urn will be held on Saturday, December 7th 2024 at Norman’s Mortuary from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Family is requesting ‘Merrie Monarch’ attire. Come and gather with us as we share stories about mom.
