George Carl Schattenburg, III, born February 14, 1931 in Honolulu, died January 18, 2011 at his home in Makawao. Mr. Schattenburg had a life-long interest in the arts and was a well-known figure in the Maui arts scene. He was a prolific potter and taught ceramics for many years at the Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center in Makawao He is survived by four children; Mark (Jamie) Schattenburg of Framingham, MA, Lisa (Kiope) Schattenburg-Raymond of Kula, Richard (Pua) Schattenburg of Lahaina and Aaron (Lorraine) Schattenburg of Honokohau Valley; two sisters, Ellen Townsley of Chula Vista, CA and Marian Pickens of Tucson, AZ; best friend Robin Ricards; former wife Patricia Avery of Kahului; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, February 13 at Hanakao'o "Canoe Beach" Park, Lahaina. The family requests no gifts or flowers; donations can be made to a charity of the giver's choice.Services: At 11:00 there will be a memorial service followed by a pot-luck lunch.Interment: His ashes will be scattered at 10:00am
