

Henry Silva, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 at home in Kula on March 29th, 2023. Henry was born in Pu’unene, Maui on October 15th, 1935, to the late Antone and Mary Silva. Henry attended vocational school for carpentry and worked a few years for Maui Pine as a young man before finding his calling as a paniolo. Henry spent many years as a paniolo for Maui Factors Ranch before spending 22 years as a paniolo for Haleakala Ranch, where he retired. He is quoted as saying “The best life is the cowboy life.” When Henry wasn’t in the saddle, he was busy operating his farrier business, alongside his late wife, Judy. He was well known as a farrier, spending nearly 50 years serving the community. Henry was also known for his talents of braiding rawhide and saddle making. In 1989 he was honored by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC as a participant in their Hawaiian Cultural Lost Arts program, where he displayed his work and demonstrated his talents. Henry is predeceased by his parents and siblings: Isabel Diego, Mary Jane Franco, Antone “Tony” Silva, Violet Pszyk, Eva “Lorraine” Amoral, Nancy Medeiros, Cressie Medeiros, Hazel Vegas and Raymond Silva. He is also predeceased by his wife, Judy Ann Perreira Silva, with whom he spent 59 wonderful years of marriage. Henry is survived by his two children, Gerard Silva and Jody Joaquin; granddaughter Torie Joaquin (Nelson Cajudoy); great-grandson Kholten Bacongco, and twin great-granddaughters Alia and Tia Cajudoy. He also leaves behind siblings, Helen Amoral and Mildred Jacintho.Private services were held. Donations in Henry’s name can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
