

Joseph Gregory Kamakahukiokalani Keau Sr., aka “Maka”, 62 of Paukukalo, Maui passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Maui Memorial Medical Center with his loving friends by his side. He was born on September 3, 1960 to Charles JP Keau and Margaret C Rios Keau in Wailuku, Maui.
Maka attended HP Baldwin High School class of 1978. He enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1983-1985 as a Tank Systems Mechanic and was stationed in Germany. Maka wore many hats and worked as a tour guide for Hana Tours, and as a Resort Maintenance Engineer. His love for playing guitar, surfing and the beach was his lifelong passion.
He is survived by his children daughters; Ariel (Rory) Oseen-Keau, a daughter in Germany, and sons; Gregory (Shannon) Keau, Joshua (Eyvonne) Keau, Joseph (Del) Keau Jr., Iokepa (Taylor) Watson-Keau, Hanalei Haupu, and seven grandchildren. Also survived by sisters; Gina (Eric) Keau Ewing, Bernie (Andy) Graham, Marilyn (Kalei) Olsen, Joyce Cabasug, and brothers; Cal (Alexis) Keau, Charles Costello, and many nieces, & nephews.
He is predeceased by parents; Charles JP Keau and Margaret C Rios Keau, sister; Anna Balmores, brothers; Robert Costello, Eddie Costello, and his best friend Ikaika.
Honor Guard Ceremony will be held at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery, 3361 Makawao Avenue, Makawao, HI, 96768, on August 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
