Magdalena Cortez Sanchez

She was born on January 24, 1929 in Cabaritan, Santa Lucia, llocos Sur, Philippines.

Magdalena moved to Hawaii with her husband in 1965. She worked as a seamstress and later worked at Maui Pineapple cannery as a trimmer. She retired in 1991. After retirement she later worked as a school crossing guard for Pukalani Elementary School.

She was a faithful worshipper of St. Joseph Church and bereaved families would often request her to lead the 9 day Novena for their recently departed loved ones. She was also an active member of their Filipino Catholic Club.

She enjoyed spending time in the garden, spending time with her family, playing cards and dancing. She was very active in the Filipino community, ILWU, and during election season she would often be sign waving and helping in political campaigning. Blessed with many talents, cooking was the exceptional one. She was the best at making Pancit, adobo, and cascaron.

Dalen can be described as smiley, friendly, sociable, outgoing, and welcoming. She is loved by many and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her Son Felix Sanchez, Daughter Myrna (Emilio) Alvarez and Son Alex (Luri) Sanchez; Grandchildren, Michael (Jenai) Alvarez, Jerel (Lane) Alvarez, Eve (Samuel) Tobise, Belle Alvarez (Justin Hanks), JT (Leslie) Sanchez, Matthew Sanchez (Tachisna Dixson), Brian Sanchez; Great Grandchildren Kaia Alvarez, Maverick Alvarez, Sofia Tobise, Amaya Sanchez, and Sophia Sanchez.

She is preceded in death by her husband Julian Sanchez.

The family of Magdalena are grateful to the nurses, doctors and staff at Maui Memorial Medical Center, Hale Makua Kahului and Hospice Maui. Also to the many family, relatives and friends who supported her.

Funeral services will be held on September 14, 2024 at St. Joseph Church in Makawao. Family and relatives visitation at 8:00 am. Public visitation at 8:30-9:45 am. Service and mass at 10:00am. Burial services will take place at 12pm at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku.
