She was born on December 25, 1929, in Oaig-Daya, Candon City, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, to Rufino and Josefa Limos. Affectionately known as “Elang” to her family and friends, she lived a life defined by resilience, humility, and deep love for her family.
In 1966, Elang and her mother moved to Hawaiʻi, joining her father who had come years earlier to work on a pineapple plantation in Maunaloa, Molokaʻi. Life there was simple yet fulfilling. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly to care for her son and her parents, working in the pineapple fields and in the kitchens at the Sheraton Hotel-Molokaʻi and Molokaʻi High School.
After her father’s passing in 1972 and the closure of the plantation, Elang moved with her son and mother to Maui. There, she continued her strong work ethic, working at HC&S Sugar Plantation and various nurseries before retiring from Howard’s Nursery.
Elang was a kind and caring woman, always willing to help others in need. Her greatest passion was gardening. Blessed with a true green thumb, she cultivated an abundance of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, often living off the land she lovingly tended. Her healthy lifestyle was evident in her longevity— she lived to the remarkable age of 96 without the need for regular medication or a primary medical doctor.
She was also known for her talents in cooking and baking. Her Filipino pastries and baked goods were favorites among family and friends and were always eagerly enjoyed at gatherings and celebrations.
Elang took great pride in becoming a landowner, one of her proudest accomplishments. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her son, Elbert. In her final moments, he told her, “I love you,” to which she lovingly replied, “I love you; too much”—a reflection of the deep bond they shared.
Elang is survived by her beloved son, Elbert Limos, her only child, and many relatives, including cousins, nieces, and nephews, scattered around the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufino and Josefa Limos.
