

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Norma “Josie” Somera Martins on December 1, 2024. Norma Josie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, daughter and friend whose love and warmth enriched the lives of those around her.
Born in the Philippines and raised in Maui, Hawaii, Norma Josie dedicated 35 years to the State of Hawaii Circuit Court, where she was admired for her diligence, integrity, and compassion. She retired exactly one year ago, ready to embrace a new chapter focused on travel and her family.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy, especially her beloved granddaughter, Oli. She adored every moment spent with Oli, whose laughter and love brought even more brightness into her life. Norma Josie was known for her exceptional organization and resourcefulness, always ensuring her loved ones were supported and cared for. Her warmth and dedication left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Norma Josie is survived by her loving husband, Gordon P. Martins, sons - Colin (Shaina Ma'ele) Martins , Colby (Kate Baoit) Martins , Casey Martins, granddaughters - Oliwia Ann Kawilialohaokawahilani Ma'ele-Martins, Malia Ma'ele-Gowan, parents - Anna R. Somera, Emiliano S. Somera (predeceased), siblings - Edgar (Fay) Somera, Nola Evelyn (Marty) Whetham, James (Linda) Somera, Caroline Somera, Jedhel (Keya) Somera, more family and a wide circle of friends and colleagues who mourn her passing deeply. Though her time with us feels far too short, Norma Josie's legacy of love, strength, and kindness will forever be remembered.
A celebration of Norma Josie’s life will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Norman's Mortuary (105 Wai'ale Road, Wailuku) at 8:30 AM (family and friends) following burial at 12:30 PM at Maui Memorial Park.
Rest in peace, Josie. We will miss you. Your love and light will guide us always.
