

Bernard served in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a Lt. Col. for the D.C. Air National Guard. He also served as a civilian for Headquarters Air Force Systems Command, where he retired in December of 1985. On Bernie’s off time and as long as his health permitted he was an avid hunter and he loved his bird dogs. He taught Sunday school at the Cheltenham United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Edith Ellis, wife Catherine Ellis and daughter Cynthia Ellis. He is survived by his daughter Joyce Ellis Strickland (Howard), brother Lewis Clifton Ellis and nephew William Ellis (Joni).
The family will receive friends at the Huntt Funeral Home Waldorf, Maryland, on Thursday October 31, 2013, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. The funeral service will be at Cheltenham United Methodist Church Cheltenham, Maryland, on Friday November 01, 2013 at 11am. The burial will be private at Trinity Memorial Gardens Waldorf, Maryland.
