

Darlene Audrey Langley, 77, of Hughesville, MD, peacefully passed away on August 3, 2024. Darlene was born on September 6, 1946, to William Edgar Whitesell and Audrey Elizabeth Brady (Stepfather: Jesse Hagan). She was born in Cheverly, MD; grew up in Ohio. After graduating from Indian Lake High School in Ohio, she moved back to Forestville, Maryland, with her Aunt Eleanor and Uncle Gene Brady. Darlene was predeceased by her parents, husband (James), and sister (June Sipes). She is survived by her two children, Madonna Montgomery (John) and Thomas Langley (Leesa) and sisters: Patricia Bryant and Barbara Tidd; and brothers: Thomas Hagan (Pam) and James Hagan (Lynn) and several nieces and nephews. Darlene had 5 grandchildren, Steven (Kaitlyn), Jessi, Cameron, Jordan, and Alex; and 4 great-grandchildren, Aubree, Addison, Grant, and Asher.
After graduating and moving back to Maryland, mom found employment with Sand and Gravel in Prince George’s County where she was a bookkeeper. She met James at the Odd Fellow Lodge in Forestville, MD where they often attended dances. Darlene and James married on August 8, 1970, and resided in Hughesville and LaPlata area for 53 years. Darlene then became a stay-at-home mom for her children and volunteered at T.C. Martin Elementary School while the kids were there. She went back to work as a Bookkeeper for Southern Oldsmobile in Waldorf, MD when the kids went to high school and worked there for many years until she retired.
Darlene helped on the family farm during tobacco season and helped her husband with his side jobs upholstering furniture and building cabinets and doing his billings for his jobs. She coached softball and ran the concession stand for Hughesville Little League for many years. She then later joined the Waldorf Jayceettes which later then became members of the Waldorf Jaycees. Darlene loved to volunteer, assisted on many projects, and even chaired those close to her heart. Darlene then worked on the Bingo committee until the pandemic slowed everything down.
Darlene loved to do crafts, crochet, needlepoint, and card making. She was still attending a monthly card making class until May 2023 when she went into the Nursing Home. Even while in the Nursing Home she continued to crochet and made several pillows while there.
The family will receive family and friends for visitation on September 4, 2024 from 6-8 pm with prayers at 7 pm at Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf, MD. A service will be held the following day on September 5th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Bryantown, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617. Internment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Darlene’s Grandsons: Steven Arnold and Alex Montgomery; nephews: Justin Tidd and Eric Hagan and close family members: Ray Johnson and John S. Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Jessi and Cameron Langley and Jordan Montgomery.
