Patrica Elizabeth Coyle, age 79, of California, Maryland died on Wednesday January 14, 2026. After fighting for the lives of so many others, Pat put up a valiant fight for her own life, during a month-long stay in an Intensive Care Unit in Washington D.C.
Pat was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1946, to parents James and Florence Coyle. In early childhood her parents moved the family to Palmyra, New Jersey. After completing High School, she earned her Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University, where she studied English Literature, and received a coveted philosophy award. Eleven years later, Pat earned a Masters in Public Administration from George Washington University.
Pat served the U.S. government at the Naval Shipyard and the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. After relocating to Washington D.C., she continued her service as a member of the Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. At 32 years young, Pat decided to leave the government to serve in a way that felt more personal to her. For the following 42 years Pat was the Executive Director/Live-In Counselor/House Mother for the Body of Christ Farm in Waldorf, Maryland, a Catholic Organization that served disadvantaged, disabled and at-risk youth.
In addition, Pat served on the board of the “Black Leadership and Christ Kingdom Society” and M.A.S.H. (Malcom Area Self Help).
Pat also taught “English As a Second Language” for the Archdiocese Adult Education Program at the St. Stephen-Martyr Center, crafts at the Smithsonian Festival of American Folklife, and was an overnight volunteer at the Mt. Carmel House (shelter for homeless women).
When not serving others, Pat loved to travel. She was a long time member of the “Road Scholars” and traveled with them throughout the U.S. Her recent solo travel adventures included a trip to Ireland, where she kissed the Blarney Stone and a pilgrimage to Hawaii to pay homage to her younger brother Kevin. Pat also enjoyed gardening and felt most alive when she was outdoors. “Nature is in my Heart”.
Even in death, Pat will serve others by bringing new life, light and possibilities to recipients of her precious gift to Infinite Legacy.
Pat was preceded in death by James Coyle (father), Florence Coyle (mother), Mark Coyle (brother), Maureen Coyle (sister), Kevin Coyle (brother), Joseph Coyle (brother).
