Tom Moreland, a Charles County native, and a long-time resident of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington D.C., passed away February 15, 2015.
Mr. Moreland was born in 1932 in Hughesville where he played baseball and worked in the tobacco fields until joining the military in 1952. His entire career was devoted to the military, first in the U.S. Marine Corp, followed by the U.S. Army, where his service took him to Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1973 while working at Fort Meade.
Tom is the son of the late William Robert and Florence Alice “Mae” Cusick Moreland. He is preceded in death by his brothers William Francis Moreland (1961) and Robert Alexander “Bob” Moreland (2008) of Tennessee. Survivors include many cousins in the immediate area.
Arrangements are by Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, February 27, 11 AM at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
