

Anna Rose (nee: Zaremba) Burdo, age 90 a forty-five year resident St. Clair Shores, formerly of Detroit, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at St. John Macomb Hospital Center in Warren, Michigan, surrounded by all eight of her children. Anna was born on the family farm, July 17, 1917 in Elmira, Michigan the daughter of the late Francis Zaremba and the late Frances (nee: Gorney) Zaremba. Anna grew up in Elmira living on the family farm. She married Ignace Franckowiak on July 4, 1934 and raised three children on a farm in Elmira. In an unfortunate farm accident Ignace was killed on October 18, 1939. She later married Felix Burdo of Boyne Falls, Michigan and raised an additional five children. In the early 1940s the family moved to a home on Townsend St. on the East side of Detroit where all eight of their children attended St. Anthonys Catholic school. Anna also found time to work at Martins restaurant on Chene street after moving into this area. In May of 1961, the family moved again to Gordon, St. Clair Shores, where Anna lived until all her children had grown, married and moved to their own homes. Still she was very active in her church and continued to teach CCD to the 2nd grade children at St. Germaines parish, in preparation for their first communion. Anna was a loving and very compassionate person, and worked as a home health care provider in Grosse Pointe, for Mr. & Mrs. Taylor. Mrs. Burdo was also a great cook and loved to have the holiday dinner with her children and grandchildren around her. She made the greatest coffeecake and even greater pineapple cream pies. Anna and her husband Felix enjoyed 58 years of marriage together and they lived on Gordon Street for 45 years. Felix went to be with the Lord on March 28, 1999, and Anna continued to live alone until July 22, 2005. When living alone became difficult, and at the insistence of her children she then moved to an assisted living facility, the American House, on 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights. She lived here until April 2006, when at age 89 she had to receive a full hip replacement and them was move to the Shelby Assisted Living Home in Shelby Township for physical therapy. Since this facility provided around the clock supervision, she remained here until March 27, 2008 where she fell and injured herself and was placed in the hospital. Because of her advanced age and fragile condition, the medical staff was unable to repair the damage done in the fall and she passed into the hands of the Lord. Anna was the beloved wife of the late Ignace Franckowiak, and Felix Burdo. She is the dearest mother of Donald (Barbara) Francis, Carl (Kathleen) Francis, Christine (Joseph) Levack, Marcia (Robert) Deputat, Felix E. Burdo, Barbara (Wayne) Phipps, Matthew (Manya) Burdo, and Margaret (David) Cornwell. She is the loving grandmother of 27, Great-grandmother of 41, and Great-great-grandmother of 1. Dear sister of Helen Marker, Sophie Skrocki, Bernice (Frank) Lepara, Walter (Yvonne) Zaremba, and sister in-law of Delores Zaremba, and Gertrude Zaremba. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Anna will be Tuesday from 5-9 pm, and Wednesday 2-9 pm with a evening Vigil Wednesday 7pm, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 Mile). Mrs. Burdo will lie in state Thursday 9:30 am at St. Germaine Catholic Church, 28301 Little Mack, Saint Clair Shores, MI 48081, until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
