Anna Patricia Reed, age 93, a longtime resident of Warren, Michigan and formerly of Florida, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Sanctuary at the Abbey in Warren. Anna was born April 16, 1922 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Swistun.Anna was an extraordinary young girl who excelled in her studies at Catholic school, through which she experienced an accelerated graduation, receiving her diploma 1 year early. She also enjoyed playing basketball in school, giving her physical being a workout as well as the academic.Love would eventually find its way into Anna's heart when she married the dashing, Richard Reed of Detroit, Michigan. Together, they built the comforts of home, raised 5 beautiful children, and grew deeper in love with each passing day. Like many other women from her era, Anna went to work in the automotive industry where her skills were utilized as an assembler. She extended the utmost in dedicated service to manufacturing cars, as well as fulfilling the loving task of keeping her home running smooth. When she wasn't working, Anna enjoyed a number of pastimes for when she found some time to herself. She was an avid reader and could devour a novel quicker than the average person,...a 700 page book in a day would have been no problem. She was also known for being quite adept in the kitchen as she loved to cook and could whip up some incredible culinary delights. Then there was her talents and artistic flair in the many pieces she created through her love of crocheting and knitting. When it came time for stepping out of the house, Anna was always excited when the car happened to make its way to the casino or the Bingo Hall. She loved giving Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money, and sharing the experience with the other "gambling gals" in the process. Another of Anna's favorite pastimes were the trips she enjoyed up north amidst the beauty of Michigan's backwoods environs. There was just something special about exchanging the concrete jungle for the splendor of God's country in the Mitten. Whether it was her sporting pleasures of fishing and deer hunting, the serene and quiet moments she treasured in watching the hummingbirds, or just hangin' out by the lake,…being up north was a relaxing and refreshing time for Anna, as well as a source for the many wonderful moments shared in the company of loved ones and friends. For those who truly knew Anna, they'll always remember what a great listener she was and how she could share anything with the plethora of knowledge she possessed. She was also quite sassy and not afraid to speak her mind. If she had an opinion on something, you were going to hear it. Yet for as sassy as she was, she was equally funny and engaging,…always doing her best to bring laughter into the lives of others. She was a true animal lover, especially when it came to the canine variety. She absolutely loved dogs and the warmth they exuded. And few would argue the warm fuzzies Anna got each time she partook of her favorite treat,…candy! Her love of candy wasn't merely a passing fancy, it was a Big-Time love affair. Yet of all she held precious, Anna's love for her family reigned supreme and provided joy beyond measure. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Anna poured the best part of herself into nurturing the relationships she held most dear and creating the moments that will be a loving memory with each reflection shared. She touched a multitude of hearts and lives throughout her life's journey,…she will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Anna was the beloved wife of the late Richard, and the dear mother of Daniel Reed, Robert (Judy) Reed, Rebecca (Al) Oles, and the late David Reed. She was the loving grandmother of Gina (Jim), Sheila, Annemarie (Ronald), Jeremiah, Robert III, Rachelle, Tanya, Danielle, Christopher, Carla, Chelsea, Alexander, Hannah, and great-grandmother of nine. A Memorial Visitation for Mrs. Reed will be held Friday from 11am until time of the Memorial Service at 3pm at the D.S.
