Annette Dubey (nee: Giacalone), age 59 of St.Clair Shores, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. She was born in Detroit on December 12, 1950, the daughter of Charles and Therese (nee: Iagnemma) Giacalone. Annette went home to be with her Lord just one day after celebrating her 21st year of marriage with the love of her life, Robert. The two met at a party in 1981, and started dating in January of 1982. After seven years of wooing & romancing each other, they shared that fateful walk down the aisle and became husband & wife on May 20, 1989. Annette was the loving mother of Alex, her only child whom she cherished with all of her heart and soul. And though she was blessed with just one child, she was truly a mother to all children. She adored the company of all the kids who passed through her life, and relished each opportunity she was given to richen their lives. She could never say No to them, and would often drop whatever she was doing to entertain them with trips to the park, the pool, or an afternoon at the movies. And when it came to entertaining, she always had a blast with her adult counterparts as well. She wasn't a drinker, but still was renown for being "the life of the party." Annette enjoyed many passions in life, one of which was her love of music. Some of her favorite listening pleasures included the silky smoothness of Frank Sinatra, an eclectic array of Showtunes, and the mood sensations of Jazz...the latter of which she came to appreciate as inherited from her late father, Charles. Another of her favorite things to do was visiting Greektown for a little casual dining and, perhaps, trying her luck on the penny slots. While others were kissing their paychecks good-bye on the high dollar machines, Annette was perfectly content in tossing a few cents into those one-armed bandits. She also loved to travel and was always an excellent traveling companion wherever the destination took them. Annette was also noted for keeping a neat & tidy home. She hung onto nothing, and was forever tooling around the house with her favorite appliance, the vacuum! And just to keep things fresh & inviting, she found great delight in rearranging the furniture, too. One of her most rewarding pasttimes was finding those "great deals" in her shopping excursions. Being a frugal and thrify consumer, she always had a keen eye for exceptional bargains on clothing and the spoils she would gather at rummage sales. And perhaps one of her most precious pasttimes were the walks she shared with her Golden Lab, Lucky. Yet, of all the traits that can best tell the story of Annette's life, none are more descriptive than to say...she was, simply, an angel without wings while here on Earth. She was the ultimate peacemaker, always willing to go with the flow. She had an incredible heart of compassion and treated everyone with the utmost in dignity, regardless of their status. Annette enjoyed the simple things in life, like sharing a chat with a friend...of which she had a storehouse. She maintained close ties with the "family of friends" she met and worked with at Comerica Bank and Father Murray's. Annette's greatest treasure in life was making others happy and meeting their needs in any way she was able. The lives she touched are too many to count, yet each and every person meant the world to her. Her care was individual and genuine, and her legacy of love will remain in the hearts of all who were impacted by her kindness. And speaking of those wings she didn't have while on this mortal coil...I'll bet she's got them now! Beloved wife of Robert. Loving mother of Alex. Dearest daughter of Therese (and the late Charles) Giacalone. Sister of Christine (Greg) Tierney, Philip Giacalone, and the late Chuck Giacalone. Visitation for Annette will be on Wednesday, May 26 from 3-9pm, with a 7pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. Memorial donations, in Annette's name, are welcomed to the American Cancer Society, 18505 W. 12 Mile Road, Southfield, MI 48076. Please share memories of Annette at her guest book.
