Born in Windsor, Ontario to the late Leslie and Greta Touchtone, Arthur proudly became a United States citizen in 1960. He served honorably in the United States Navy and treasured exploring the world aboard the USS Collette DD-730. He loved telling stories about his time in countries like Japan, and Australia, which earned him recognition as a “Trusty Shellback” by crossing the equator. Most of all, Arthur really loved starting a family with Susanne, his beloved wife of 57 years.
Arthur made a career as a Construction Superintendent for Detroit Elevator in Union Local 36 for 30 years. He retired and moved to Augusta, Georgia where he could indulge in his favorite pastime of golf year-round. He delighted in becoming an employee of Point South Golf Course for many years.
A kind man by nature with a good heart, Arthur always loved a well-told joke and any quality time he got to spend with friends and family.
Arthur loved traveling around the United States and Canada with his family. He also had various hobbies including faceting gemstones, collecting stamps and pocketknives, and acquiring folk art. He was also an avid reader of mysteries and adventure stories, especially ones by his favorite author James A. Michener. He was known to always have a book on him.
Arthur could usually be found on the dance floor at any party, which earned him the nickname of “Murray” after the famous dancer Arthur Murray. He also enjoyed listening to all kinds of music from Willie Nelson to Elvis, from Eric Clapton to Hawaiian music.
Arthur lived to help others. Not only was his home lush in bloom, but he often helped his neighbors keep up with their homes as the Beautification Coordinator for the Dorchester Neighborhood Association. Arthur was a faithful friend to all and believed in working hard and doing your best in all things. Leading by example, he taught his children to do the same. It was his goal to make sure they were successful and happy in their lives. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Arthur will be missed dearly.
