Born in 1936 to Paul and Pelagia Sidorowicz in Hamtramck, Daniel was a proud Veteran of the Army and served as a Paratrooper in the Korean War. He worked for ADT his entire career. He was a skilled security alarm and communications technician, troubleshooter, estimator, and installer. He served as Treasurer and Steward in the CWA Local 67 Union during his career and after in retirement.
Daniel lived by example. Lifting and loving those around him, Daniel was surrounded by family and the many friends who became his extended family.
The home where he and his wife Mary Agnes lived was a gathering place for good food, hearty laughter, and unconditional support. It was the backdrop for countless holidays and life milestones. Everyone knew they were always welcome. Their children, Dan and Margie, grew accustomed to visitors always coming and going. Daniel was known for always extending an invite to those he’d meet. A friend to Daniel was a friend for life.
Daniel held many titles, from husband, to dad, uncle, and papa. To his wife, he was the love of her life. To his children, he was a role model. To his grandchildren, he was a gentle hero. To his closest friend’s children, he was a second father after their parents passed away.
Daniel was also known to many as “Ziemba,” the “Z-Man,” a nickname he was given in high school and kept for life. Daniel kept in close touch with countless friends he grew up with – meeting up once a month for breakfast for decades to share life lessons, and swap stories that became legend.
Daniel loved to collect. Beer cans, bobbleheads, baseball caps, matchbooks and Derby glasses. The inventory impeccably maintained in his head – along with so many of those stories, and sports and movie facts, which he could recall on a dime.
When a Lions game was on, you could always find Daniel watching and cheering on his favorite team – he was far from a fair-weather fan. Even when they weren’t playing, Daniel often donned his Detroit Lions gear. Otherwise he was known for his signature bright-colored t-shirts and hats. He was always easy to spot in a crowd.
Daniel and Mary Agnes didn’t often travel far from home. But when they did, it was to their most cherished destination of Lexington, Michigan for their annual July trip. There they enjoyed time with family and friends who became family. You could find Daniel perched on “the rock” in the waters of Lake Huron, cold drink in hand, soaking in the summer sun while Mary Agnes kept a watchful eye over all from her swing on the beach. Daniel’s other favorite spot was Belle Isle which started as a high school hang out. It was also the place he took Mary Agnes on their first date, and was a destination for day trips with the grandkids to the aquarium. When Daniel did travel, it was to Kentucky for the Derby with his buddies, or a road trip to take care of loved ones.
