Delphine Ann Knowles, age 79 of Warren, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at home surrounded by her loved ones. Delphine was born July 9,1939 in Hamtramck, daughter of the late Anthony and the late Frances (Mikulski) Sajewski.Born and raised in Hamtramck, Delphine attended and became a proud graduate of the city's St. Florian High School, the Class of 1957. Following graduation, Delphine went in search of work where she could put her natural skills to work in the secretarial realm and was delighted to secure a position as just that at the Chevrolet Gear & Axle Plant in Hamtramck. Eventually her abilities and hard work ethics would be noticed and rewarded through a promotion as Secretary to the Vice President of Human Resources,…a moment of great pride for Delphine.Delphine enjoyed her work for many different reasons, but none so much as the most important perk she realized,…meeting the handsome & dashing, Edward Knowles who worked as a Cost Estimator for Chevrolet. What began as a friendly work friendship would eventually blossom into something much deeper and more romantic, which ultimately led to a proposal of marriage and a walk down the aisle as the two lovebirds shared their vows and began their lives together as husband & wife. Delphine and Edward were joined in holy matrimony on May 13, 1961 at St. Florian Catholic Church in Hamtramck,…in the eyes of family and friends alike.Once married, the newlyweds made their home in St. Clair Shores in the house where Edward resided. Four years later, in 1965, they relocated to the burgeoning community of Warren where they decided to build upon the comforts of home and hearth, raise their two beautiful girls, and grow deeper in love as life unfolded,…and was the house & home in which Delphine decided to stay the remainder of her life.Raising a family and holding down the fort was Delphine's focus for many years. Then a new opportunity arose where she could return to the workforce, this time as a secretary for St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Madison Heights. For over 23 years, Delphine was the friendly voice, the helping hand, and the go-to person for many of the church's parishioner's and community of believers. Working in a faith based environment brought her immense joy and great reward. For a bit of entertainment away from the job, one of Delphine's favorite pastimes was spent golfing. She loved to golf and enjoyed sharing the game with family and friends, especially on those beautiful sunny days when striving for that elusive Hole-in-One was so much easier. She also loved to travel. Going to special places and soaking up the scenery was often another of Delphine's favorite pastimes, with one of her particularly exceptional memories being the trip she shared "across the pond" with Edward's sister as they visited the picturesque beauty of Belgium and Ireland. Delphine was also a lover of the Arts, primarily through her appreciation of the theater. Sharing in the expressiveness of actors and watching their talents come alive on stage brought Delphine a unique sense of euphoria and delight. Whether through enjoying the local scene of theaters here at home, or traveling to the iconic stage of the Stratford Theater in Toronto, Delphine found the theater to be a wonderful source of entertainment and culture. After Edward's passing, Delphine made a point to remain active and plugged into the goodness of life. She always seemed to be "on-the-go" and ready for anything,…especially with the group of widows she befriended and hung with who had banded together to stave off the challenge of loneliness. They were a force to be reckoned with, and managed to create a host of incredible memories together that helped warm the heart and speak to the importance of friendship,…forever.A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Delphine leaves a legacy of love that will keep her close and ever-present with each reflection shared. From Chevrolet to St. Vincent Ferrer, and throughout the breadth & width of her incredible life, Delphine touched and impacted countless hearts and souls in her journey this side of Heaven. As she travels to the other side, may we remember her amazing examples of love, care, and compassion and use them to guide our path,…as she did hers. Delphine was the beloved wife of the late Edward. Loving mother of Karen Mihelich and Sharon (Dan) McIsaac. Cherished grandmother of John Mihelich, Elizabeth McIsaac, Matthew McIsaac, and Billy Mihelich. Dearest sister of Jerry Sajewski.Visitation for Delphine will be held Sunday, January 20th from 3-9 pm, with a 7:30 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren.
