Don was born on June 26, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Henry and Dolores (nee: Magga) Fura. He was raised in Hamtramck and attended Hamtramck High School before beginning a lifelong career in manufacturing. A dedicated and hardworking man, Don became a skilled welder and spent many years with Parton & Preble Inc manufacturing company until his retirement. His craftsmanship lives on through the work he proudly contributed to, including the airplanes displayed at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.
On January 17, 1967, Don married the love of his life, Kathy, in Detroit, Michigan. Together, they built a beautiful life in Warren, where they raised their three children and created a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. One year ago, Don and Kathy moved from Warren to Port Austin to fully enjoy their golden years and spend even more meaningful time together.
Don had a passion for sports and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed his time on the golf course where his game was always on par, and in the bowling alley where he consistently averaged an impressive 240–250 a game. He enjoyed fishing, relaxing outdoors, and spending time at his daughter’s cabin in Lincoln, Michigan, where he found peace in the sounds of nature and quiet moments in his chair.
Don and Kathy cherished traveling together, whether it was attending golf outings with friends, visiting friends and family in Alabama, or enjoying trips to Soaring Eagle to watch live Elvis tribute performances - something they loved sharing with their son and daughter-in-law. One of Don’s greatest joys was cheering on his grandson at hockey games, always showing up with pride and enthusiasm. He was not only a proud grandfather to his own grandchildren, but also to all their friends, who lovingly knew him as “Grandpa Don.”
In his free time, Don enjoyed watching “scary movies”, riding around in his decked-out golf cart, and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends. He was incredibly generous, the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation.
Don will be remembered for his humor, his loving and caring nature, his silly and goofy personality, and his quick wit. Known for his playful sense of humor, even his goodbyes were unforgettable. They were often delivered with his signature “flipping the bird,” a gesture his family will always laugh about and cherish. He brought so much warmth and laughter to everyone he met and leaves behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten.
He was the beloved husband of Kathy. Dear father of Michael (Embry) Fura, Michelle "Shelly" (Randy) England, and Kim (Steve) Kriger. Loving grandfather of Cameron (Jessi DeMara) Bouchey, Caitlin (Evan) Beaumier, Justin Fura, Alec (Brogan Calvert) Jacobs, Madison (Frank Detomaso) Fura, Samantha (fiancé Tom Hutchison) England, Chase (Hannah Hutton) England, Derek (Teah) Kriger, Emily Kriger, and Hunter (Allie Verkennis) Kriger. Devoted great grandfather of Braeden, Leowna, Colten, Karter, Millie, Maxwell, Zander, Frankie Jr., Dexter, Baby Kriger on the way, Zayne, Kiera, and Delilah. Brother of the late John Fura and brother-in-law of Linda Fura, Angie (Harvey) Bartal, Carol (the late Spiro) Maslardzievski, Bobby (Barb) Arczynski, and Tom (Kathy) Arczynski. Don was also survived by his best 4 legged buddy Bam-Bam and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.
