Donald Leigh Hessell

Donald Leigh Hessell, age 78, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at his home in Warren surrounded by his loving family. Donald was born July 29, 1936 in Halfway, Michigan, son of the late Lawrence and the late Evelyn (nee: Polkowski) Hessell. He was raised on the eastside, and later served his country as an Airman in the United States Air Force. Upon being honorably discharged from his military duties on March 23, 1954, Donald returned home and joined the workforce.Mr. Hessell worked, and retired, as a crib attendant for General Motors. When he wasn't working, Donald enjoyed his time either on the golf course or in the bowling alley. He and his wife, Judy, were always on the go, whether at the Hazel Park Eagles Club or attending one of their children's or grandchildren's events. In addition to raising their five children, Don and Judy found the time to treat themselves with trips and cruises,...however, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Don always had a quick joke or story for his family and friends, and was quite an entertaining guy.Donald Hessell was the beloved husband of Judy, and is the dear father of Gerald (Debbie) Hessell, Karen Hessell, Lizbeth Hessell, Kelly Hunt, and Scott (Dawn) Hessell. He was the cherished brother of William (Margaret) Hessell, Karen (Gregory) Kelly, and the late Robert Hessell. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. Hessell will be held Friday, January 16th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Service will be conducted Saturday, 11:00am at the funeral home.Please share memories of Donald at his memory book above.
