A budding young woman fresh out of high school, Dorothy wasn’t about to let any moss grow under her feet before entering the work world. With hard work ethics and a desire to put her natural born skills into action, the lucky recipient of her talents came from the folks at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, known more affectionately to us Michigander’s as Ma Bell. The year was 1950 and Dorothy was a mere 18 years old when she accepted their offer and began working in the secretarial pool. With her nose to the grindstone and immense dedication to her work, Dorothy would ultimately climb the ladder of success at the telecommunications giant and was rewarded with her promotion to Accounting Manager. That was the position she held when finally accepting her well-deserved retirement on December 31, 1983 following 33 years of loyal and dedicated service to the company.
A familiar phrase that many of us have heard or shared, “Let’s do lunch,” is a plan that often eludes us,…but not when it came to Dorothy. A devoted family member and friend, everyone knew she loved “doing lunch” and sharing in the joys of food and fellowship,…many of the same in whom she spent countless hours sitting around the table enjoying a meal and some friendly conversations. It’s been said, “when you’re eating, you’re happy.” That being the case, Dorothy’s life was filled with happiness and wonderful memories of lunchtimes galore.
Other pastimes she enjoyed included the games of Bingo and Scrabble. Whether it was giving Ol’ Lady Luck a run for her money populating her card, or exercising her wordsmith talents by forming impressive words with her tiles, Dorothy possessed a gamesman’s countenance and a friendly competitiveness,…but mostly just loved being engaged with others in a little fun and entertainment. She was also known for her appreciation of the arts, specifically through the stage performances of the plays she attended.
Dorothy loved her home and the neighbors that surrounded her. She had quite the nice little abode, with all of its creature comforts, that offered her the safety and security she had come to enjoy. But she was doubly blessed by all the neighbors who had become dear and precious friends over the years. Together they “held down the fort” and enjoyed the comfort in knowing that she always had others looking out for her. The world may have been going a little crazy, but Dorothy had her friends to rely upon. It was like a warm & fuzzy security blanket.
The last of 10 children born to John & Joanna Bogucki, Dorothy will be fondly remembered for her immense intelligence and outgoing personality,…among the many other traits that set her apart from the crowd. She leaves quite the legacy of a life lived well, and a person who loved sharing the special moments in life with her treasured family and friends. She will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know her and be loved by her. May she rest in peace.
Dorothy was the loving mother of the late Guy Anthony Juras. She was the last of 10 siblings. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
A private burial has taken place for Dorothy. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home.
