It is with deep sorrow and much love that the son of Dorothy "Dorotka" Irene Pelech, age 95, of Sterling Heights, announces the passing of his loving mother on May 8, 2022. Dorothy's son Randy was by her side as she passed away peacefully at home during the early hours of Mother's Day.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Pelech of 45 years as well as her daughter Donna (Ronald) Saunders and #1 son Mark. All of her siblings have gone before her.
She is survived by her devoted son Randy who many say is truly "his mother's son." She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews and many adoring friends.
Born to Andrzej... Tata... and Magdalena... Mama...(Sikora) Franczyk, in their home in Detroit. Dorothy arrived in this world on July 4th, 1926, as the "firecracker baby." She was the 10th of 11 children. Her Catholic faith and gentle nature were steady guides as the matriarch of her immediate and large extended family. While not a grandmother in the formal sense, Dorothy's magnetic and playful personality always seemed to affectionately draw children of all ages to her side. In fact, many considered her to be their grandma of the heart.
Dorothy shared her zest for life with everyone she met, always inviting friends and family to "stop over anytime." She loved hosting as well as attending countless family gatherings throughout her 95 years of life and enjoyed traveling with her sisters and friends to any casino.
As a young girl, she was the "unsuspecting runner of mutuals" which was the beginning of her enjoyment of gambling.
Being of Polish descent, the trip of a lifetime was a visit to Poland with her sons and sister Mimi. She was able to meet many family members for the first time and immerse herself in the culture of her heritage. Her parents spoke Polish and Dorotka was very fluent. She enjoyed speaking the language with her son Randy, although it was a standing joke that he should "never speak" his version of Polish outside of the house.
Steadfast loyalty and a strong work ethic were central to Dorothy's working career for the Kowalski Sausage Company, retiring at the age of 69 after 51 years of service.
Her sense of humor and welcoming demeanor will be missed by all who knew her.
