Douglas was preceded in death by his sister, Violet Walden. He is survived by his siblings Vern (Diane) Walden and Vida Hoffman, and was a loving uncle to many. He was a treasured cousin of Carl Short and Mike Short. Douglas is also survived by his devoted friend and caregiver, Dawn (Chad) Hollenbeck, and her family, who meant the world to him.
Douglas was a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Michigan. Over the years, he held many roles, including Texas State Trooper, car salesman, furniture salesman, and licensed psychologist. His proudest professional achievement was serving as a professor of psychology at Macomb Community College, where he left a lasting impact on his students. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Douglas had a generous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved telling stories, making people laugh, and was known as a kind, loving, and fun presence to be around. One of his greatest joys was spending time with Dawn and her entire family, especially enjoying meals together at Texas Roadhouse.
Douglas will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Any donations made in his memory to the Michigan Humane Society or Hospice of Michigan would be deeply appreciated.
