Earl Lyndon Chandler "Bud", age 96, died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at his home in Warren, Michigan. Bud was born June 16, 1923 in Winston Salem, North Carolina, son of the late Otha L. Chandler and the late E. Inez (nee: Winecoff) Chandler.
Following his schooling, Bud was called to duty during World War II serving as a sailor in the United States Navy. Bud served aboard the USS Marblehead (CL-12), an Omaha-class light cruiser, originally classified as a scout cruiser, of the United States Navy. The USS Marblehead was the third Navy ship named for the town of Marblehead, Massachusetts. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, Naval Seaman Chandler returned home to Michigan and joined the workforce.
Bud worked for over 36 years at Michigan Bell "Ma Bell" before his retirement in 1982. Bud was a hardworking man from the "Greatest Generation", he loved his family, his country, and his coffee. Family, friends, and co-workers will remember the ever-present cup of hot coffee in Bud's hand.
When Bud was not working, and later into retirement, he immersed himself in the study of the Civil War and would often take trips to visit Civil War Battle sites. His love of history and the United States were ever-present on his mind. Another wonderful character trait was his deep devotion to his mother,...family members would always comment on what a dutiful son Bud was to his mother. His mother, Inez, lived a long and wonderful life to the age of 105. In addition to his mother, Bud cared deeply for his entire family and would offer the shirt off his back for someone in need.
Bud was the loving husband, of 72 years, to Doris Chandler, and the dear father of Jan (Charles) Durecki, Leigh (and the late Paul) Konwinski, Scott (Susan) Chandler, Patrick (Robin) Chandler, Marvin (Judy) Chandler, Kathryn (Tim) Grose. He was the loving Papa to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Chandler was predeceased by his parents and his four siblings.
Mr. Chandler will lie in state on Monday, July 8th from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church, (St. Clement Campus), 25252 Van Dyke Avenue, Center Line, Michigan, 48015.
