Earl D. "Aaron" Flatt, age 75 of Warren, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. He was born June 2, 1935 in Jackson, Tennessee, the son of the late Ira and the late Floria May (nee: Loftis) Flatt. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Earl for his service to our country as a sailor in the U.S. Navy. A decorated veteran, he served proudly for over 4 years protecting and preserving the freedoms we enjoy today. As a skilled laborer in the automotive industry, Earl was a hard-working man who spent many years extending his utmost in dedicated service on the job. When he wasn't working, his life was filled with all sorts of pasttimes and things he enjoyed doing. One of them involved his appreciation for music. Not only did it include his listening pleasures, but he also enjoyed making his own music. With a guitar in hand and his vocal pipes warmed up, Earl could entertain with the best of them. He also liked to fish and hunt, and especially enjoyed the getaways to the family cottage at Albright Shores in Gladwin County. Like most men, one of Earl's favorite pasttimes was his love of sports. He appreciated them all, but as a hugely devoted Detroit Tigers fan, he was definitely driven towards the All-American game of baseball. Yet, of all the sporting events he enjoyed, none were more exhilerating, nor treasured, than those he got to watch where his grandchildren were the contenders. Ever the proud Grandpa, he lived for every opportunity he was afforded to see them compete,...and, of course, they were all his champions. With his southern roots, hospitality and charm, Earl was the kind of guy that everyone enjoyed being around. He always made you feel welcomed and he was a friend to all. Family and friends were such an important part of his life, and spending time with them was one of the greatest passions he knew. To all the lives he touched, he leaves a legacy of love that will never be forgotten. Earl was the beloved husband of Thelma. He was the dear father of Danny (Sandra), Michael (Mauren), and the late Tanya Renee Flatt. Loving grandfather of Marcella, Timothy, Travis, Keith, and great-grandfather of Jackson. Brother of Jonnie Ruth Choate. Visitation for Earl will be held on Saturday, August 28th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Funeral Services will be at 2:00pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Woodhouse. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Please share memories of Earl at his guest book.
