Born in Oglethorpe, Georgia, Eddie Mae carried her Southern roots with her throughout her life. She was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of Old St. Mary’s Church in Detroit. Eddie Mae shared a loving marriage with her late husband, Ruffin, whom she married at the age of 18. Together, they built a life full of joy, travel, and activity whether visiting Jamaica, the Bahamas, or simply enjoying time around town, they were always on the go. At home, Eddie Mae found great happiness in gardening, a passion that connected her to her upbringing in Georgia. She lovingly grew vegetables and flowers, often preserving her harvest and preparing delicious meals for her family. She cherished the holidays and was known for hosting memorable family gatherings year after year. Thanksgiving and Christmas were especially dear to her, though she also enjoyed Fourth of July cookouts with Ruffin as the grill master. Eddie Mae remained active and engaged throughout her life. She was kind-hearted and generous. She always had a spirited sassiness; she never hesitated to speak her mind. Becoming a grandmother brought her immense joy. She could spend hours playing cards with her great grandchildren, where playful accusations of cheating and laughter filled the room, creating cherished memories for all. Eddie Mae lived a long and happy life, rooted in love for her family and devotion to her faith.
