I used to live at the condos where he and his lovely wife lived. they were the best neighbors. they would invite me over on saturday evening to chit chat, and they were so nice! Ed was always outside taking care of the lawn and would always say hi to me when i was out. what a wonderful couple! I will miss him dearly!

From the few times that we met Mr. Hafeli we could tell that he was a very kind gentleman. He and Maxine were a loving couple and a wonderful example to their children and grandchildren. Our son Keegan is fortunate to be a part of this great family. You are in our thoughts during this sad time. May the memories of the happy times comfort you.

I speak for the "outlaws," as we were affectionately known - those of us who had the privilege of marrying into this great Hafeli Family. Maxine and Ed were the kind of role models that every married couple should have - loving each other, caring for each other, building an amazing life and "memory book" of anecdotes and treasured stories. Since my own parents both died when I was 38, I actually have known this Mom and Dad longer than Nick and Dode. They have been there for me for the 40+ years that I've been part of their family. We are all blessed to have had our own children get to know and love their grandparents. Each of our kids have fond memories of special times spent with Grandma or Grandpa. It was important for the grandchildren to have a part in the funeral service as we said good-bye to this great guy - his seven grandsons escorting him into church one last time... his four granddaughters carrying the gifts to the altar, including a memory basket of special tokens of Ed's life. I love this card I received: His spirit lives on and always will. Times he laughed, gave advice, or just listened echo in the memories of those whose lives he touched. And in being so remembered, his legacy will live on. We love you and miss you, Dad.

Dear Hafeli Family, I would like to extend my sympathy to you all. We recently lost my husbands father on Christmas Day to pancreatic cancer and it was very comforting to hear of memories or thoughts about your loved on. My memory of Mr. Hafeli dates back to the "Aunt Stella" days:) I remember visiting your home and thinking what a cool big family this was and oh how handsome Mr. Hafeli was! Always a smile on his face and a caring man. My prayers will be with you all.

First of all, Mrs. Hafeli, please accept my heartfelt sympathy. In thinking about Mr. Hafeli my thoughts travel back in time to growing up on Rolyat and of course the influence the Hafeli family had on Our Lady Queen of Heaven. I remember the wonderful relationship my parents shared with both Mr. & Mrs. Hafeli from the time they were young and how all of us kids on that glorious street hung out and managed somehow to grow up and turn out pretty darn good! And to Denny, Donna, Alan, Ken and Marcia, you were so blessed to have your father on this earth for this long life he lived. That kind of greeting is a rare gift in our fast-paced society today, and that is why it always touched my heart. Dad, There are way too many things to be thankful to you for. I'll concentrate on the most important one - faith. You and mom always made sure we went to church each week. I still follow your "Too sick to go to church" rule. That was hard and I looked for an opening when I would be on my own and away from boring church. I thought my chance came in 1973 when, at 21, I went off to college at Michigan Tech. With nearly 500 miles between us I figured I could finally sleep in on Sunday mornings. I don't know how you managed it but during my first week in Houghton nearly all of the friends I met were Catholic. They invited me to go to church with them and I haven't stopped since(the irony is many of them stopped going before I even graduated.) I tell people it was my epiphany. You just didn't go to church, you participated in your church. While I was never an usher (unless asked) I tried following your example. Like you, I took an active part in CYO, became a member of my own church's parish council, sang in the choir, went on retreats, and like you, became a retreat captain. The one thing neither of us was quite able to do was to keep everyone in line on Sundays but I continue to pray that the experience I had back in 1973 will finally occur for them. As I play around with my ice fishing gear on this cold day after the funeral, I'm reminded of my first fishing trip with my dad. We walked out from my grandparent's place at Anchorville pulling a sled with our equipment. we probably walked a half mile but to a six or seven year old, it seemed like we were heading to the North Pole. When we arrived at our destination, we spent the next hour or so trying to start a fire on a cookie sheet my dad had brought just for that purpose. After lighting about 200 matches in an attempt to get the fire going on a day with strong winds was unsuccessful, we packed up and headed back to the cottage. I don't remember if we ever even spudded a hole, butmy love of the outdoors, expecially ice fishing, continues to this day. Thanks Dad, Alan

Edward Hafeli was my Grandpa. (Daughter of Ken and Josie Hafeli.) I loved him very much. There are many memories that we had together. I am only going to share a couple that revolve around the Detroit Tigers. The game was always on and the team was usually not so great, until recent events. I remember going to one of the last Tigers games ever played at Tiger Stadium with him. Lastly, I was very happy to hear radio personality, Ernie Harwell, say: "Edward and Maxine have been Tiger fans longer than I can say" over the air ways during the 2006 World Series. That was awesome. Who knows, maybe Saint Peter played, "Eye of the Tiger" when they saw Grandpa coming. It is hard to believe I won't see his smiling face and feel his great big hugs anymore. Partings are part of life, but it doesn't make them easier. May the Lord's angels great thee with open arms. I love you Grandpa! Katie Cole (Hafeli)
