Elizabeth "Betty" L. Viola, age 81 of Warren, died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Huron Valley Hospital in Commerce Township, Michigan. She was born on October 6, 1929 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late Milton and the late Emma (nee: Rohleder) Daub. Devoted to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and "homemaker," Betty poured her heart & soul into caring for her family and providing them the best and warmest comforts of home. Of course, as with most "Mom's & Grandma's," some of the treasured recollections espouse the talents she had in the kitchen,...and the happiness that her prowess provided. Betty loved to cook and so enjoyed seeing the smiles on each & every face that enjoyed what she brought to the table. She could definitely work some mealtime magic. As for her favorite pastimes and interests, Betty kept herself well-entertained. On the personal side, she was very fond of knitting and crotcheting, and the intricate work of her hands produced many special & memorable pieces. But perhaps most special of her times alone were those moments spent curled up with a good book. She was an avid reader and it wasn't uncommon for her to devour 2 or more novels a week. It is said that reading stimulates the brain, and perhaps that is why Betty's mind was sharp as a tack right up to the end. When it came to her shared interests, one of the most prominent was her love of bowling. Even up to her last days, spending time with her fellow bowlers was a 3-day-a-week affair. Another shared pastime included casino trips with her beloved husband, Al. The gaming excitement and ambiance was always a highlight, especially when their trips took them to the mecca of gaming in Las Vegas. Together, she and Al found great delight in their casino cavorting. Yet, of all the things that brought her joy, Betty's life was never more blessed than through the moments shared with family & friends,...especially her grandchildren. One of the most precious of these memories, for both Betty and her granddaughters, was derived in the holiday tradition they created that became an annual affair. Each year around the holiday's, a date was planned for them to share dinner and a play, a tradition that Betty treasured with all of her girls. With that, and all of the other blessings that enveloped Betty's life, the legacy of love she leaves behind is strong and true. For those whose lives were touched and impacted by her caring spirit, the memories they hold will forever be cherished. She will be immensely missed. She was the beloved wife, for 53 years, of Alphonse "Al". Dear mother of Robert (Judith) Viola, Kathleen (Kerry) Hammer, David (Cheryl) Viola, Patricia (Steve) Ellison, and Karen (Brian) Jarvis. Loving grandmother of 15. Sister of Walter Daub, and the late William (Lorraine) Daub. Visitation for Betty will be held on Monday, February 21st from 5-9pm and Tuesday from 2-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. A Rosary Service will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. Betty will lie in state at 9 am and a 9:30 am Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Road in Warren. Interment will follow at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Memorial donations are welcomed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Michigan Chapter, 1421 E. 12 Mile Road, Bldg. A, Madison Heights, MI 48071. Please share memories of Betty at her guest book.
