Erma Louise McCoy, age 90, of Warren, Michigan passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Edwin and Lorraine Titzer.
Erma was the beloved wife to the late Donald J. McCoy for 60 years before his passing in 2020; loving mother to the late Michael J. McCoy, Tammy (Dave) Kruse and Donna (Matthew) Bednarczyk; cherished grandmother to Luke (Morgan) Bednarczyk, Philip Bednarczyk, and Danny (Melanie) Thorne; dearest sister to Norma “Susie” Rode and Donald (Carolyn) Titzer; a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed and remembered by her large “bonus” family.
Erma met the love of her life, Don, in high school, and the two were married on June 6, 1959, in Evansville, Indiana. Together, they moved to the metro Detroit area, where they built a loving home and raised three wonderful children. Their life together was full of adventure — from traveling internationally to exploring nearly every state in the U.S., Erma embraced every moment. Whether at home or away, she loved being surrounded by family and friends, especially when there were perfect Manhattans and laughter to be shared.
A devout Catholic throughout her life, Erma attended Catholic schools from kindergarten through 12th grade and carried her faith proudly and quietly into everything she did. She poured her heart into her work as a kindergarten teacher, where she especially enjoyed hosting the beloved annual kindergarten circus. She also gave her time as a dedicated Girl Scout leader, cookie mom, and PTA member, always finding ways to support her children and community.
Erma’s greatest joy came later in life with the arrival of her grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Gog,” she embraced her role as grandmother with unmatched love, energy, and devotion. From Friday night pizza and videos to attending every game, concert, and Scout event, she made sure her grandchildren knew just how special they were. She created many treasured memories not just for them, but for all who were lucky enough to be part of her extended “bonus” family.
Erma’s legacy is one of love, faith, and deep family connection. She will be remembered for her warm heart, fun-loving spirit, and unwavering support for the people she loved.
