Evalyn M. Kuffa, age 92 of Warren, died on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Port Huron Hospital in Port Huron, Michigan. She was born on June 15, 1917 in Detroit, the daughter and only child of the late Adolph and the late Stella (nee: Wasielewski) Lapinski. First & foremost, Evalyn loved her family immensely. Admired as the Best Mother, and revered for the loving & doting grandmother that she was, Evalyn was truly the family's rock. She was their most avid supporter, strongest advocate, fiercest protector, and the glue that held it all together. Her grandchildren were her pride & joy, and she "spoiled them ridiculously." When her children would question her generosity unto them, they were quickly reminded that it was none of their business. Providing for her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and the relationship they shared was truly unmatched. Though her body might have faltered with age, she remained mentally sharp right up to the end. She was always on top of everything, and often fooled the unsuspecting souls who thought she was unaware. And along with her mental sharpness, Evalyn was also a strong Polish woman, steeped in her heritage and faith. Being the daughter of parents direct from the motherland, she spoke the Polish language fluently and often. She kept the Polish traditions alive and well all through her life. In her younger years, she was employed at a pharmacy in Hamtramck, which just happened to be the place that she met the man who eventually became her husband. Mitchell was a stock boy, and Evalyn was the cosmotologist. Along that time, the war effort would find Mitchell heading off to serve our country. Upon returning home, her husband would eventually go on to become a Pharmacist, then the new owner of "The Medicine Shop," the store in which they both worked together for over 50 years. With an eclectic array of tastes and interests, one of her favorite things to do was reading. And one of her passions in reading was a weekly dose of the "National Enquirer." If it was in the National Enquirer, it was fact! She was also quite the collector of all sorts of things. Whether it was an interesting article or a story regarding one of her favorite movie icons, she was always in the know. Another of her passions was found in music. She was a pianist, and she loved her piano tunes...especially those played by the infamous, Liberace. And perhaps most precious within her character base was her love of animals. She especially loved dogs and had a huge heart for all of the strays that crossed her path. At one point, her house & heart were enveloped by 6 of them at the same time. And lastly, there's been nobody who's loved their fast food & sweets more than Evalyn. She was a constant visitor to her favorite haunts which included Arby's, McDonald's, KFC, and Taco Bell. She felt so loyal to each of them, it was a constant exercize in making sure the competitor's bags were hidden from sight when she pulled up to the window to order. And when she did get caught, the food was always for the dogs' pleasure, not hers. And when it came to her sweet tooth, it was either a scrumptious cake from Sweetheart's Bakery, or one of those Hostess Snowballs that fit the bill. Her children recall how she LIVED for her delicious snowball treats, and would often hide them for future enjoyment. Most people use a dishwasher to clean their dishes. For Evalyn, that appliance became the "Snowball Storage Center." Evalyn was the kind of woman who always "over-gave," yet expected nothing in return. Her kindness and generosity touched a myriad of hearts and lives, and it is those special people who are blessed with the memories that she helped to create. Beloved wife of the late Mitchell. Loving mother of Mitchell II (Celeste), Robert (Sybil), and Lawrence (Patricia). Dearest grandmother of Mitchell III, Rachael (Jason) Stachkunis, Mary (Mark), Kevin, Matthew (Michelle), Laura; and great-grandmother of Adriana. Aunt of Carl Naumowicz, Ronald, and Merl. Visitation for Evalyn will be on Monday, May 10 from 3-9pm, with an 8pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Memorial donations are welcomed to the Michigan Humane Society, 30300 Telegraph Rd., Suite 220 - Bingham Farms, MI 48025. Please share memories of Evalyn at her guest book.
