Ferdinand "Rocky" Markus, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Sunrise of Rochester, he was 87. Rocky was born May 19, 1927 in Union Town, Pennsylvania, a small coal mining town. He was the son of the late Fred and the late Annie (nee: Ruper) Markusic.Mr. Markus was the ultimate family man who worked hard providing for his family. He was determined to mentor his children so they could be successful; family would be a prevailing trademark in Rocky's life. He was never to busy to help someone with that special home improvement project. Rocky possessed a natural ability when it came to wielding a tool, and was a handyman extraordinaire. Rocky shared a special relationship with his brother, Carl, and the two made sure to nurture the love they were given. Spending time with Carl was one of Rocky's favorite things to do. Rocky also enjoyed taking his daily walks, and was quite fond of traveling, too. But of all the pastimes he enjoyed the most, a sunny day on the links was at the top of his list. The game was always special, but never so much as when Rocky experienced that pinnacle moment,...the day he got that coveted Hole-in-One! For a golfer, it's an achievement that usually follows years of practice and hope,...and a dream that Rocky saw come true. In the quiet times, Rocky enjoyed reading,...or the simple pleasures of watching football or basketball on television. For many years, Rocky enjoyed the daily 6:00 am "coffee time" with some of his closest friends. On many mornings, he would wash down his favorite donut or other sweet treat with his cup of coffee. Rocky's sweet tooth was not a selective one, he loved it all. Donuts, apple pies, coconut cream pies,...if it contained sugar, you could bet that he was passionate about consuming it. A loving father and grandfather, Rocky left quite an impression and impact on countless lives throughout his journey in life,...but never more precious than with his loved ones, especially his treasured grandchildren. May the legacy he leaves be a warm remembrance of those cherished moments that made a difference. He may be gone from our presence, but he still looks on and guides us along,...our guardian angel forever. He was the loving father of Wendy Markus, Beth Gulecki, Craig Markus and Amy Markus. Former husband of Marie. The beloved brother of Catherine "Kay" Strizich, Jan (Dick) Learmont, Carl (Carole) Markusic and Rosemary "Sug" (Carmen) Alampi. The dear grandfather of Joshua (Lori) Gulecki, Eric (Kaleigh) Gulecki and the late Charlene Gulecki and Great grandfather of Marissa and Callie. Visitation for Rocky will be held Friday, March 6th from 5-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. His Funeral Service will be conducted Saturday, 11:00 am at the funeral home. Please share memories of Rocky at his guestbook above.
