Frederick A. Prince Jr., age 86 of Clinton Township, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2011 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren, Michigan. He was born on February 16, 1925 in Detroit, the son of the late Frederick and the late Ruth (nee: Scott) Prince.A graduate of Grosse Pointe High School, it was shortly afterwards that Fred enlisted in the military and served our country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Fred for his unselfish patriotism and for the part he played in protecting the freedoms and liberties we enjoy today.Following his military service, Fred decided to further his education where he attended the prestigous University of Michigan and obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Still eager to expand his knowledge, he went on to attend the Harvard Business School where he obtained his Master's degree in Business Administration. It can easily be said that Fred's greatest passion and life's work was enveloped around the reforestation of the state having planted numerous trees throughout the Upper Peninsula and the northern Lower Peninsula. He was so driven by this desire that he invested in over 12,000 acres of Michigan property in order to make a difference. And not merely a planter of trees, Fred also invested a great deal of his time in their research as well, specifically in the study of the Emerald Ash Bore infestation. To say that he poured his heart & soul into this unique endeavor would be a tremendous understatement, but that's exactly what he did. His legacy of protecting and preserving this passion is a testament to his care, and a gift of beauty he has left us all. When it came to some of his other passions in life, he definitely possessed a love of sports. He could often be found enjoying a little action on the ice when the Red Wings were playing. And being a U of M alumni, there was no greater fan of the Wolverine's than Fred. He was also known for how he loved to eat, and his 3 squares-a-day were truly of great importance. But of all the things that he'll be regarded for the most, it will definitely be his generous and giving spirit that touched a multitude of lives along the way. As much as he nurtured his love of nature,...so, too, he gave abundantly from his heart in nurturing the love of family and friends. He will be immensely missed and eternally loved. He was the beloved son of the late Frederick and Ruth Prince. Dear brother of the late Peter Prince. Loving companion and friend of Melita and Delphine.Visitation for Fred will held on Friday, December 2nd from 2-4pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Cremation will take place at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. Please share memories of Fred at his guest book.
