

Gabriel Phares, age 71, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Gabe was born October 29, 1943 in Alexandria, Egypt to the late Charles and the late Helene (nee: Yamine) Phares.He came to the United States, on a ship, in December 1949, with his mother, his brother Joseph and his two sisters, Suzanne and Mary. His father was already in the United States working to provide a home for his family.Gabe and Georgia (nee: Hurst) were married on February 12, 1965. They recently were blessed to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. During their marriage, they raised three children: Lisa Marie, Gabriel (Lynette), and the late Charles (1974-2009). Lisa blessed their life with a darling granddaughter, Briana, who was born April 25, 2002. Gabe and Lynette continued their blessing with grandsons, Tate, born July 3, 2003, and Liam, born Jan 30, 2013.Their best family vacations were on a houseboat in Kentucky, and the big family vacations with his brother Joe and his family, sister Sue and her family, sister Mary and her family, and, of course, his dear mother, Helene. Gabe always enjoyed watching his boys play football and speed skate, and his daughter with their cheerleading and gymnastics. In later years, he enjoyed watching his granddaughter power tumble and gymnastics, and Tate playing hockey.Gabe always worked hard .Through his hard work he was able to send his two sons, Gabe and Chuck to Michigan State University after they finished high school at De La Salle. Gabe was a fair, sharp, honest, dedicated and very hard working entrepreneur who grew his family business and always took great care of his employees; he will be missed by all who knew him.Gabe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Georgia. He was the loving father of Gabriel ( Lynette), Lisa Marie, and the late Charles. He was the beloved brother of Suzanne (Gerald) McCaig, Mary (Charles) Sroka, and the late Joseph. He was the cherished grandfather of Briana, Tate and Liam. He is also survived by "Moe" the bird, who has been a member of the family for the past 22 years.Visitation for Gabe will be held Wednesday, April 8th from 3-9 pm, with a 6:30 pm Rosary and a 7 pm Eulogy Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Thursday from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church, St. Clement Campus, 8155 Ritter Avenue (at Van Dyke) in Center Line, Michigan.Please share memories at Gabriel's memory book above.
