Beloved husband of Patricia Hart for 64 wonderful years. Loving father of Linda (Mark) Hammond, Jeffrey (Carla) Hart, John (Carrie) Hart, and the late Scott Hart. Proud grandfather of Jack and Ally Hammond. Dear brother of Dorothy (the late James) Duerson, Martin (Pamela) Hart, and the late Virginia (David) Matthews. He also leaves behind many cherished extended family members, close friends, and his loyal dog, Molly.
On March 22, 1940, Garnett was born in the bedroom of his parents, Garnett and Edith Hart, on Blackmoore Street in Detroit, Michigan. After meeting Patricia, the love of his life, they were married in Oklahoma and began a life together filled with adventure. Garnett proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where his culinary talents ensured his fellow soldiers were well-fed and cared for. His military service took his growing family around the world, with each of their four children born in a different location: Germany, Texas, Virginia, and Michigan.
Following his military career, Garnett continued to share his love of food and hospitality by owning and operating a restaurant. Cooking was one of his greatest passions, and he found joy in preparing homemade meals for those he loved. Garnett was also a dedicated fan of Detroit sports teams and could often be found watching games or tuning into the cooking channel. His sense of humor, especially his fondness for "dad jokes" even the well-worn ones, brought smiles to many, always shared with pride beneath his Vietnam Veteran hat. Garnett was also a very proud member of the Freemasons and Shriners.
More than anything, Garnett deeply loved his family. He took special pride in his role as husband, father, and grandpa.
In honor of Garnett’s service to his country and his love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to K9s For Warriors, an organization that pairs service dogs with veterans in need. https://donate.k9sforwarriors.org
