Warren – Passed away on January 4, 2021 at the age of 83 of natural causes due to Alzheimer’s. Genevieve was the beloved wife of Donald for 62 years and the beloved mother of Susan, Carol (Matt), Michael (Michelle), Michelle (John Sr.) and Patrick (Lisa). She was the cherished grandmother of ten (10) grandchildren : John Jr., Andrew, Sarah, Andrea, Emily, Rachel, Francine, Allison, Luke and Owen. She was close to her sisters Barbara (Tony) and Donna (Harold) and had many friends.
Genevieve attended St. Anthony where she was a cheerleader. She played the baby grand piano. She worked at Woolworth in the confectionary display area. Genevieve worked as an accountant at two retail stores prior to becoming an executive assistant in the robotic and automotive business and retired after 30 years.
From an early age, Genevieve’s Catholic upbringing was a critical aspect to her life. She was devoted to her faith and loved to spread its teachings whether it was through bringing her grandchildren to mass or teaching Catechism classes. Her religion was what brought her together with her loving husband Don. You could see every time that they looked at each other how in love they were and how they fell more in love with each other every day. Genevieve’s love for Don was so strong that she did not hesitate to run to him when he came home from basic training in the Army, causing her to kiss the wrong man. Thankfully, Don forgave her, and they ended up having five children in six years as she would tell every person she met. Her love also spilled over to several wonderful canines - Heidi, Penny and Annie Mae. Their home was always open to family and friends. For many years she hosted a Christmas Eve party. Don spoiled her by treating her to any vacation she wanted, her favorites being camping at Myrtle Beach and Disney World with their children, and eventually later Alaska, Europe, China and her life goal of Hawaii. When Gen and Don were on tours, they were usually one of the last on the bus, because mom was buying food to share with others or souvenirs while dad was taking pictures with almost every step he took. You could always find her napping in the sun or eating ice cream. She was passionate about Michigan Football, lipstick, and loved to sing and dance (especially Polkas). More than anything, Genevieve loved her ten grandchildren. She loved going on trips with them and their parents to Cottages, Disney (many times) and Jamaica, taking them to the squirt zone at the Warren community center, swimming at nearby neighbor's pools or a beach, shopping, and having them all over her house for sleepovers where her snoring could wake them up. Genevieve spoiled her grandchildren by letting them have dessert before dinner and eating lots of chocolate and ice cream with them. She would not hesitate to give her time to help-out her children when grandchildren were born, when the grandchildren fell ill, needed a baby-sitter or attend any event for a grandchild. She always wanted to be an active part of their lives. Genevieve will be remembered by being a loving wife, a caring mother, and a fun grandma with an endless supply of energy (hope the angels will be able to keep up with her).
There will be a memorial gathering for immediate family on Saturday at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren, Michigan, from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am.
