George L. Middel, age 85, died on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren. He was born in Detroit on March 21, 1923 to parents, George & Tilly Middel. Being a man of disciplined work ethics, George's career path led him down the automotive road where his dedication and hard work at General Motors found him attaining the position of Supervisor. He retired from GM in 1984. Following his retirement, George spent the past 25 years enjoying the time that he had worked so hard to attain and filled it with many things special to him. Perhaps something we can ALL relate to, he enjoyed filling his tummy with "chocolatey goodness!" Remembered as a Lover of Chocolate, he can enjoy it all "calorie-free" now! When it came time for working off those sweet-tooth calories, George took great pleasure in the more low-impact type of exercising,...like swingin' a golf club, which afforded him some wonderful memories with friends. When at home, he loved to work in the yard and bring beauty to his immediate surroundings. George will also be remembered for his love of animals, especially those precious times spent with his granddaughter's and his granddogs, Winkey & Sheila. A devoted man of faith, George was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Warren. Some may remember him as a loyal member in the Knights of Columbus,...others may simply reflect on the warmth they recall in him as one of the ushers at church. Known as one who was very active at St. Sylvester's, he was always doing his part for the Body and the community. His family and friends meant the world to him, and the love he leaves behind is a testimony to a man of compassion who truly made a difference in so many lives. Beloved husband of the late Betty, he is the dear father of David (Lisa), Margaret (David) Haden, Mary Beth (Steven) Biber, and the late Joseph Middel. Brother of Vera DeSmett and Mary Ann Angel. Loving grandfather of Darina, Vanessa, Angie, Elizabeth, Christopher, Franklin, Robert, and his four great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ariela, Jasper and Sebastian. Visitation for George will be Friday, March 13 from 3:00-9:00pm, with a Rosary Service at 7:00pm that evening, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. He will lie in state at St. Sylvester Catholic Church on Saturday, March 14 from 11:30am until time of Mass at 12:00pm. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. Please share memories of George at his guest book.
