Gerry was born and grew up in the metro Detroit area with his family. He attended Eastern Michigan University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology. Gerry eventually worked as the technical director at a pharmaceutical and cosmetic company until his retirement. In 1991, Gerry met the love of his life, Mary, and were married for the past 24 years. Although Gerry did not have any children of his own, he took on the wonderful father figure role to his four step-children. Gerry also enjoyed being a fur-dad to his dog, Kizzy. He was like a dad and more; teaching the kids about financial investments, his faith in God and teachings of the Bible, and a good old history lesson. Gerry seemed to know the answer to everything. He was extremely smart, but also had a great sense of humor. Gerry was also very musically inclined and loved to play the piano by ear.
In his leisure time, Gerry enjoyed playing Keno and blackjack, fishing, and watching his favorite football team – Notre Dame. You could usually find Gerry posted at his favorite spot in town, the Victory Inn. Another favorite place to visit was to his RV in Lexington and swim in the pool. Gerry had many childhood memories with his family that he cherished there as a kid, so he decided to have his own place to create new memories with his own family. There are countless stories about Gerry that can be told, and everyone always seemed to have a good one to tell. Gerry will be remembered for being a salt of the earth kind of man. He had a good, kind heart and soul and was a mentor to many. As he said himself, “I care, but I’m not a caretaker”. Gerry loved his family more than anything. The time spent and memories made with his family and friends will forever be cherished. He will be missed and loved eternally by all.
Gerald was the beloved husband of Mary. Wonderful step-father of Carrie (Stephen) Barbieri, Colleen Tackett, Gerald (Cheryl) Flannery, and Katie (Ryan) Archibald. Dear brother of Gail Fritz. Cherished grandfather of Sydney, Shea, Sophie, Keegan, Parker, Benjamin, Aubrey, and Evan. Predeceased by brother Gregory Fritz and parents Lyle and Ella Fritz. Survived by many sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Gerald will lie in state on Friday, April 30th from 9:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30am, St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren. Gerald will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
