Geraldine E. Gram "Gerry" (nee: Hamilton), age 87 of St. Clair Shores, died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Shelby Crossing in Shelby Township, Michigan. She was born on November 10, 1925 in Detroit, daughter of the late William and the late Lucille (nee: George) Hamilton. It was on that glorious and memorable day of August 12, 1944 that Geraldine (known more affectionately to all as "Gerry"), a blushing and beautiful 19 year old bride, promised herself in marriage to her dashing groom, Frederick. They would go on to spend 45 years together, growing deeper in love with each passing day, until Frederick's death on April 2, 1989.Following their marriage, Gerry & Frederick headed west where they decided to plant some newlywed roots in the Golden State of California. After years of soaking up the beauty and sunshine across the miles, they headed back to roots of their beginnings, Detroit. From there, a wonderful opportunity came available for them to make another move, this time to the quaint & charming locale of Harsen's Island. They spent 18 years on the island, enjoying its beauty and unique, scenic delights until the challenges of aging and health led them to their home in St. Clair Shores on Country Club Drive,…just off the golf course. And how fitting,…seeing as one of Gerry's favorite pastimes was golfing. As for their seasonal getaway, these two lovebirds enjoyed exchanging the wintry realm of the Mitten for the warmth and sunshine of Florida. It was in Palm Bay that they weathered their winters as Michigan Snowbirds. As previously mentioned, Gerry was an avid golfer. She loved every chance she had to hit the links,…especially on a sunny day and with friends alongside. And as for that Holy Grail every golfer seeks to achieve, you can mark one up for Gerry as her golfing prowess was delightfully rewarded by that amazing "hole-in-one" she added to her scorecard. Aside from taking care of her family's needs, Gerry was also a member of the working class where held the position of Bookkeeper & Secretary for the family's gas station business. She was an integral part of its operation, and possessed the perfect blend of professionalism and fun to make it run like a well-oiled machine. When she wasn't working of hangin' out at the links, Gerry loved to dabble in her garden and get her hands dirty while extending her own brand of TLC in nurturing its growth and beauty. From her more sporty side, a welcomed pastime often meant heading down to a favorite fishing hole and trying her luck for the "big one." There was just something about the peacefulness and serenity of fishing that soothed her soul. Gerry was also known for her love of walking. Not only was it great exercise, but yet another way of enjoying nature and the beauty of life. She was also renown for her social proclivities and her ability to light up her surroundings. "Friendship" and "community" meant the world to Gerry, and this was never more evident than her association with the Lion's Club and the Red Hat Society. Both organizations offered her the opportunity to share the caring spirit and passion she possessed that so many came to know and love. But of all the people she held most precious, none could hold a candle to the love she embraced for her family. Her children and grandchildren were the jewels of her eye and the core of her care. Every moment spent with them was a blessing beyond expression. To all who were blessed to know this wonderful lady, she leaves behind a storehouse of memories to be treasured and held close with each warm reflection. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Gerry was the beloved wife of the late Frederick. Dear mother of Pam (Mike) Schomer, Rick (Claudia) Gram, and the late Gayle Williams. Loving grandmother of Russell (Barbara) Williams, James (Kelly) Williams, Heather (Ala) Zora, Michael (Carrie) Knowles, Eric Knowles, and Neal (Shaina) Gram. Dearest sister of Elaine (Fred) Schneider. She will lie in state on Thursday, September 19th from 10:30am until time of the funeral service at 11:30am at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan.Memorial donations, in Gerry's name, are welcomed to the Alzheimer's Association of Michigan, 20300 Civic Center Dr., Ste.100, Southfield, MI 48076. Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Please share memories of Gerry at her memory book.
