Gregory was a man whose life was defined by devotion — to his family, to his work, and to the values he carried with him from his earliest days. Born and raised in Perks, Illinois, he grew up with a strong sense of community and character that shaped the remarkable life he would go on to lead. After graduating from Southern Illinois University, he began building both a career and a legacy that reflected his unwavering dedication and steady strength.
On December 21, 1996, Gregory married the love of his life, Theresa Starks. Their union was one built on partnership, laughter, and deep, enduring love. Together they created a life full of meaning, mutual support, and countless cherished memories.
Gregory served the City of Detroit with honor during his many years as an officer with the Detroit Police Department. His commitment to protecting and serving others was evident in all that he did. After retiring from the department, he continued to work with the same determination and pride at Montgomery Ward and Sears.
Outside of work, Gregory was happiest enjoying the outdoors. He found peace and joy in boating, fishing, and hunting, and treasured the time spent in nature. He was also a proud and lifelong member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, carrying its principles of achievement, brotherhood, and community throughout his life.
Gregory’s presence, warmth, and steadfast spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the love he shared, and the values he embodied every day of his life. May he rest in eternal peace.
Gregory was the beloved husband of Theresa Starks-Porter. Loving father of Lashaunda (Steve) Morris, Terrell (Kimberly) Starks, and Crystal Porter. Cherished grandfather of Atlas Maisonneuve and Christian Morris. Adored great-grandfather of Luna Maisonneuve.
